October 1-2: Introduction to DBT Informed School Counseling Strategies: 2 Day Training- 11 CE Hours


This 2 day training will provide school mental health staff with an overview of how Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills and strategies can be provided within the school environment  using a MTSS model. School mental health staff will be taught how to identify student goals and behavioral targets for counseling sessions as well as the rationale of using a chain analysis as a method of assessment and guide to determining effective solutions. Additionally, participants will be provided step-by-step processes for providing skills coaching (based on DBT STEPS-A skills) to students “on the fly” when needed during the

CE Hours
  1. Participants attending the entire training may receive a certificate for 11 CE Hours.
  2. DBT in Schools, LLC has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7064. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. DBT in Schools, LLC is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
  3. This program is Approved by the National Association of Social Workers (Approval # 12/31/2024) for 886826240-6699 11 continuing education contact hours.
Learning Objectives:
1.	Understand the rationale for the different applications of DBT in the school context.
2.	Understand the modes and requirements for various applications of DBT in the school context.
3.	Understand and use DBT approaches to goal setting and targeting.
4.	Participants will be able to use chain analysis as a method of assessment and to identify possible solutions with students.
5.	Participants will be able to use the biosocial model of emotion dysregulation to conceptualize their students' difficulties.
6.	Participants will learn a sample of DBT STEPS-A skills that can be taught to students during counseling sessions. day in order to increase the amount of time students spend in the classroom. Participants will learn how the invalidating environment can impact emotion dysregulation, and will be taught validation skills and how they can  be used to impact school culture.
Please note the DBT Skills in Schools: Skills Training for Emotional Problem Solving for Adolescents (DBT STEPS-A; Mazza et al., 2016) curriculum is required for this training. The manual can be ordered directly through Guilford Press or Amazon.
